I had given my 360 to the neighbor's kids and haven't had a console for a while, but I finally got an xbox one so I could start playing Elite:Dangerous with a buddy of mine. It's amaaaazing! (I had to buy a 4k TV too because the xbox one was only outputting 720 -- I guess my tv was 1080i only. Grr! Then I had to rearrange my living room because the xbox one's text was too small and my eyeballs are old.)
ANYWAY, the elite controller. It comes in a beautiful package, it feels wonderful, it has very nice customization. And yet: Disappointment #1: the paddles on the bottom are not 4 extra buttons for you to customize -- they are only remapping of existing buttons.
Now, this wouldn't be a problem if I could map, let's say, Paddle #1 to a weird combo like B+RB and then in my game I could map something to B+RB. Now Paddle #1 is acting like an independent button exactly how I want. BUT, the elite controller config screen only allows a one-to-one correlation. So, for example, I can map Paddle 1 to A B X Y LB RB or click stick L R, but that's IT! No fancy combos.
Is this a purposeful decision on their part? Is there any way this could change in the future? It seems like a simple software update could change the way this is handled. Is there somewhere I can complain to and request this behavior update?
I'm really astounded that a piece of hardware this nice and this "elite" has such a substandard button mapping mechanic. I mean, I forgive you not having them as extra buttons... the controller inputs are what they are, but not allowing multiples? That's obscene. In a fighting game I assume I'd want to be able to map A+B or whatever to my paddle. Isn't that the point of them?
Who did this? You've wounded me, sirs.
