A bit of context first. I've been a PC gamer for most of my life, but I've recently switched to consoles for a number of reasons. I wanted to spend more time with my wife and cats in the living room, was tired of sitting in the office all day, etc.. I tried having my PC hooked up to the TV for about a year but that didn't turn out so great. I play a lot of online FPS, and simply put, keyboard and mouse on the couch isn't very practical or comfortable with current solutions (and I even purchased a Razer Turret as one final attempt at it).
Anyways, I had a 980 TI and (still have) a 55" 4K TV. That means I've experienced most of the "4K gaming glory" for quite a while before my switch to consoles. I currently have an Xbox One S as my main console (just personal preference - controller, UI, friends, etc.), and a regular PS4 mostly for exclusives. That has been working great for me and I can say I'm quite happy with the switch. But boy, do I miss those 4K games. They looked amazing and it's very hard to come back to 720/900/1080p after gaming at 1440/1800/2160p for so long. It may not seem like a dramatic difference going "up" (HD -> 4K), but going "down" (4K -> HD) once you get used to it is very noticeable.
So, given how I've experienced 4K gaming and loved it, and have the One S as my preferred console, it's safe to say I'm very much looking forward to the Scorpio. That will be a day one purchase for me, if not even a pre-order. But the PS4 Pro is also looking very tempting to "scratch that 4K itch" while I wait.
I'll be doing plenty of gaming in 2017 and it wouldn't hurt to play some of my favorites (BF1, BO3) and some upcoming titles (ME Andromeda, Horizon) in close-to-4K. The Pro seems capable of at least 1800p in quite a few games, and in my experience with the 980 TI, 1800p looks great. Had I purchased my consoles a few months later, I probably would have went with the PS4 Pro right away, perhaps even as my main console.
That was a longer post than I was expecting. So, is it worth getting the PS4 Pro now, even though I know I'll sideline it (except for exclusives) for the Scorpio once it launches? Other than price, what's holding me back the most is having to purchase a few games again and losing online progress. Also the slight inconvenience of selling my current PS4.
TL/DR: Used to game in 4K on PC. Switched to Xbox and PS4. Prefer Xbox for random reasons. Really miss 4K graphics. Will get a Scorpio at launch. Want a PS4 Pro for some 4K gaming in the meantime. Not sure if it's worth it.
