Isn't it funny how people want the Switch to be as powerful as a PS4, be portable, have good battery life, a large amount of internal storage and be under $300 at launch?
Let's have a look at this. It's probably the most powerful device of its price range and size. Gaming laptops (good ones, at least) are all over $300. Plus they are bulky and laptop keyboards are hardly great for gaming - and this is coming from a PC gamer.
The battery will be affected by performance. The more powerful it is, the more power it will suck from the battery. A bigger battery drives up the cost. The same goes for the internal storage. While 64GB or 128GB would have been the sweet spot for a device of this size, the option of additional storage is a valuable one, especially when considering the device's portability.
The Nintendo Switch seems to be the best possible device Nintendo can make at this time. The NVidia Tegra is possibly the best mobile chip for gaming that exists at this time, and not only does the Switch feature the processors and the battery (which are equivalent to the processors and power supply in PS4 in this comparison), it also contains a screen, gyro controls, speakers and has to be durable. Really this device is doing a lot more with regards to its internals.
Commenters on YouTube and Facebook pages such as The Gaming Bible (although I could go on about the stupidity of the comments on the latter page for a good couple of years) are clearly living in some sort of fairyland in which devices have TARDIS-like bigger-on-the-inside technology that allows for large components to be put inside a tiny device. I think people need to be realistic with their expectations for this console. It should also be noted that many XBox One ports are running at 900p 30 and some, such as Watch Dogs, are running as low as 720p 30.
Due to the Switch's small screen size, if the install base is there, third party developers will port their games to it, even if at low settings if the need arises. After all, these visual shortcomings may be difficult to notice when viewed on a small screen.
tl;dr - People are expecting a device the same size as a DVD case to be as powerful as a PS4...and cheaper. Let's think about that for a moment.
