Question for this subreddit: I recently ordered and played through the original Halo on the 360, and I noticed it was in full/widescreen (i.e. not it's native 4:3 aspect ratio). It was a pleasant surprise for me at the time.
I had not signed into my live account up until a day or two ago, due to making sure it was setup properly, and when I launched the game it said an "update" was available.
I was afraid it might change something, but wasn't sure if this would make the console unable to play the older game if I denied it, so I updated anyway (welcome to my circular logic). Now, it shows it as the classic 4:3 ratio. Nothing was changed in the Display settings, only whatever changed via the update.
I kinda want it back the way it was...otherwise I'll have to do the switch to 720p/480p in the Display settings to mitigate the nasty black hole surrounding the sides of the screen in the actual game. I read a little bit about it in some forums online and saw that people say that CE always crops the screen...even though the 6-8 hours of playing through the entire campaign say otherwise. I was wondering if anyone else here has run into a similar issue? And if so, how did you fix it?
And if you're wondering about why, near the end of 2016, I ordered both a refurbished X360 and the original Xbox version of Halo: CE, it's because A) I'm cheap and B) I played the game with my friends years ago when it first came out. It wasn't until recently that I started thinking "It might be fun to go back and play this again – as well as pick up the rest of the games in the series with the exception of Halo 5 (which I promptly did)."
Just curious if anyone else has some guidance on this. Regardless, I'm enjoying playing through the old ones (1-3) and looking forward to playing the "new to me" ones (3:ODST, Reach, 4, and CE Anniversary).
