[Tech] 1080p on my 720p TV is clearer on my Xbox One than 720p setting?

So after messing with settings because small text was blurry on my 720p TV, I've discovered that setting my Xbox One to 1080p makes text and everything else look more clear than blurry, why is this?

Are there any downsides to doing this, and what causes it?
