I have no idea where else to ask this, so any help at all is greatly appreciated.
In the last few months, my TV has started entering Standby mode whenever I start a Blu-Ray or DVD movie. If I try to turn it back on, it immediately goes back into standby. It didn't do this even a year ago. Nothing in my setup has changed.
Here's where it gets weird. At first it only did this when playing movies off the PS4, but now it's doing that when playing off the PS3 as well. I think it might work okay if I turn Deep Color off on the PS4, but I haven't tried that yet. Note, it does not do this when playing a game from those consoles, or when streaming video. Only when watching a movie from a BD or DVD. I figured it was something to do with information being passed over HDMI, but it just did it to me when playing a game from my original Xbox, upscaled from 480p.
Here is how everything is hooked up so far.
TV: Sony Bravia KV46-VL150
AVR: Yamaha HTR-5063
PS4, PS3, PSTV, X360: HDMI to receiver, then HDMI to TV.
Xbox, PS2: Component to component video switcher, optical audio out from each (praise God for the Xbox HD AV pack--having 5.1 for old games is great!) into an optical audio switcher, then the component video and optical audio go into the Receiver, then HDMI to the TV. // This has not been a problem at all until today, and I haven't experienced the problem with a PS2 game. Only a 480p 16:9 Xbox game. It might be worth trying a 480i, 720p, or 1080i (yes, there were a few of those) Xbox game, but I don't think this is a scaling issue at this point.
(There is also a Wii running component to the TV, and a Dreamcast running to a VGA box that's converted to HDMI then sent to the TV, where the audio is sent over stereo RCA to the receiver. So no problems there of course.)
My current plan is to buy one of these, and place it in line between the Receiver and the TV, to see if stripping the HDCP from the HDMI signal might remove whatever fuckery is telling the TV to turn off into standby all the damn time. Because it's rendered my living room unusable. Man, HDMI handshaking is the absolute stupidest thing. I wish we could have all gone over to a new standard of SDI or something instead, but Hollywood needed its precious copy protection, so now I'm here in this mess.
