[Build Help] First time building a PC, coming from many years of console gaming

Build Help/Ready:

Have you read the sidebar and rules? (Please do)

Yes

What is your intended use for this build? The more details the better.

I'd like to transition from my xbox one to a computer as I'm finally ready to make the switch. For the most part I will only use this computer for gaming, web browsing, and college homework (mainly just papers and research.)

If gaming, what kind of performance are you looking for? (Screen resolution, FPS, game settings)

I would like to have a solid 1080p/60fps on high settings for most current games and also just be able to last a few years playing at 720p. Nothing too fancy but I'd also like to be able to play any game and not be limited by my specs, as is the case with my laptop.

What is your budget (ballpark is okay)? $700-$800, the cheaper the better. I also have to get a monitor, keyboard, and mouse with this budget.

In what country are you purchasing your parts?

United States

Post a draft of your potential build here (specific parts please). Consider formatting your parts list. Don't ask to be spoonfed a build (read the rules!).

Provide any additional details you wish below.

I already have a 128gb SSD that I can use for this build. I am also interested in opinions on which monitor I should get. Right now I'm trying to decide between the one on my pcpartpicker list or this one https://www.amazon.com/ViewSonic-VX2457-MHD-DisplayPort-FreeSync-Technology/dp/B018MYTH9U/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1472495534&sr=1-1&keywords=freesync+monitor&refinements=p_n_size_browse-bin%3A3547805011%7C3547806011

NOTE: You do not have to follow this format, but please be sure to answer these questions. Please do not ask to simply be given a build. You are welcome to delete this section.
