Why is the entertainment industry using original names instead of going in sequential order or using different names?

Xbox went from Xbox to Xbox 360 then to Xbox One which makes it incredibly difficult to find stuff for the original Xbox.

Doom went from Doom I to Doom II then Doom 3 then now Doom 4 is just Doom. It's a semi-reboot of the series but it makes searching difficult for the original, much like the case for Xbox.

SimCity did it as well with after SimCity 4 came SimCity Societies then SimCity in 2013.

Now Ghostbusters is doing the same with keeping the original name and not using a different name but 2016's is a reboot with women.

Is there any particular reason why we're seeing this trend so much lately in the entertainment industry? Why aren't they using sequential numbers (Xbox 3/720) or different names (Ghostbusters: The New Chapter, etc.)?
