Need recommended hardware for capturing Xbox one.

Hi everyone! I'd like to capture some of my ark Xbox gameplay and I'm not sure what kind of capture device I should look at given the pic hardware I have access to.

  • surface pro 2 i5 2.4ghz (I think) 4xxx cpu, 4gb of ram
  • surface pro 3 i3 1.5ghz 4xxx cpu, 4gb of ram

All I want to do is record about an hour or so of gameplay and editing it into a 10 - 20 min video. I don't expect to stream given my surface pro hardware. Thinking 720p 30fps stuff.

I was thinking of getting a used elgato hd, the USB 2.0 one because it seems to do what I want. I can get one for $60.

Can I record my elgato footage to a USB 3.0 memory stick? Each surface machine has 10-15 gb free on the SSD so I'd want to make sure I have enough room by using a 32gb USB stick.

Anyone have experience recording on the surface pro devices? From the system requirements on elgatos page, sounds like only my wife's pro 2 would be able to handle the capture because the pro 3 is only 1.5ghz dual core.

Any input is great!

I was also checking out some capture hardware that captures to a USB stick or sd card directly instead of needing a computer. Then I can just use the pc for editing and rendering.
