Hey all,
Technical question and I wasn't sure where else to ask, so if there is a place I'd be better off asking then please suggest it.
Short question is: Does the M4V container have unusually high streaming requirements?
Recently I have upgraded my trusty old WDTV Live Streaming to a Shield TV, and my isp provided router to an Asus A68U. Initially everything was rock solid, and I had zero complaints. It was nice getting back to Kodi, as I hadn't had it since XBMC on the Xbox, and XBMP before it!
Anyway, the old setup had the WDTV connected to my laptop via ethernet. No complaints for playing (supported) videos, everything was quite smooth.
For various reasons I have opted to go wifi only with this new setup, and everything seemed great. I was blown away by what a difference the Asus made, and was happy to have everything working great. I tested with my most largest of movie files and everything loaded quickly and seeked like a pro.
Then I started playing some old episodes (720p web rips in m4v containers) and they would quickly lose sync and go into buffering hell. After much testing I deemed it to be the fault of the inbuilt wireless of my laptop, and connected that to an external wireless adaptor.
Well, it appears that while that may have contributed to the issue, there was more to it.
Tonight I was playing an 11gig 1080p bluray rip on my ipad with infuse. I saw the Google cast button pop up and gave it a whirl. After a warning that I may experience choppy playback I was startled to find that it played incredibly smoothly through my Shield. (Laptop wirelessly to router, wirelessly to ipad, wirelessly to router, wirelessly to shield). Then I tried loading one of those m4v files, after waiting a while gave up and force closed Infuse, and on a whim remuxed it to mkv with MKVToolNix. As I expected it should have to begin with, it worked like a champ.
What is going on?
Thanks
