Hardest choice ever!

I've been looking into monitors for a while now as I'm completing my first PC build ever and the first PC I'll use for gaming since 2007. Since then I've been gaming on an Xbox 360 at 720p and lately on a PS4 at 1080p.

I used to game on a 19 inch 900p Acer monitor back in the day so I am quite out of the loop regarding monitor technology these days and I can't for the life of me decide what I want in a monitor! I've yet to decide on a GPU, but it will most likely be a 1070 or maybe the R9 480, pending benchmarks. All I know is I'd like to keep the monitor at or below a budget of $250.

Up to 27 inch 1080p@60hz IPS (e.g. HP 27xw), 24 inch 1080p@144hz TN, 24-25 inch 1440p@60hz TN.

These seem to be my choices at or below $250.

I have never played a game at 144hz but I hear it's the bees knees, but then again I'm sure a bigger IPS screen is probably great with better colors and viewing angles. And 1440p resolution is noticeably nicer looking on the desktop at least, can't say about gaming as I've never seen 1080 vs 1440p gaming side by side. I play a healthy mix of story driven shooters and action games, multiplayer shooters and the occasional RPG (Skyrim and Fallout 4 come to mind)

r/monitors Help me please!!
