Entry level gaming PC for a friend about to buy Xbox

A good friend played on Xbox 360 for many years but as the console retired, he wonders about buying the One.

So the drill is :

• He plays on a 720p TV

• Already has a case, keyboard etc

• I can give him an old GPU: Gigabyte GTC 650Ti 1Gb

What do you think, will he be able to play a wide variety of games (even recent) with this build thanks to the small resolution he plays in ?
