Help me build a PC console replacement for Xbox1/PS4 for under $700!

What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.

I will be using this PC only to play video games. I have an extensive STEAM backlog of old games - probably the most intensive spec wise would be The Witcher 2, Alan Wake, Metro 2033, Cities: Skylines. However, I also wish to have a PC that can basically play games that have been and will be released for this generation (Xbox1/PS4) at least medium settings/720p.

What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?

  • My budget before taxes/shipping would probably be $700. My real budget is $800 after everything (taxes + fees).

When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.

  • As soon as possible as long as it is within my budget.

What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (Tower/OS/monitor/keyboard/mouse/etc)

  • I'd need an OS, wireless keyboard + mouse setup, Xbox 1/STEAM controller

Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?

  • I live in California (of the United States), with no access to a Microcenter

If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.

  • I will be reusing my display, which is my TV (HDMI input)

Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU?

  • No overclocking

Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)

  • Would definitely want a SSD in the computer that is large enough to have probably 3-5 new games installed.

Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-tower/full-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?

  • Would like this to be the size of a console. I don't need any fancy lights, I just would like a case that promotes good heat flow, cable management, and minimal dust buildup. Also, I hope that the PC won't be so heavy, so I can transport it to friends' homes as a console.

Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference?

  • 64 bit Pro version of Windows 10

Extra info or particulars:

  • Important info here: I am looking for a new gaming device, and the new consoles don't really interest me, plus I have such a vast STEAM back catalog. I live in a tiny studio, so I would like this PC to be the size of a console (without hopefully sacrificing cooling or whatnot). I would like this PC to be able to at least perform like a console which means that it can play all the new games in 720p/60fps/medium settings. This PC will be only used for gaming as a console hooked up to my TV, I have other devices that can do my work or other computer related activities. This will be my first ever PC build. I am pretty strict on the budget, because if I need to spend more than $800, I would just buy a console. I am also considering the Alienware Alpha or Syber Vapor I series for prebuilt options.
