Leaving consoles behind - a journey to ascension

I've finally put together my first build after being a lifelong console gamer. I never thought I'd end up a PC gamer, and while I still think the PS1 and PS2 game libraries are legendary, I was left cold by the current generation of consoles. Seeing the Xbox One struggling to even hit 1080p in most games (720p Battlefront is laughable), and the PS4 barely running at 30 fps in The Witcher 3, I decided consoles are too feeble to keep investing in. The distant glow of the PC Master Race beckoned me.

The turning point came when my brother in law upgraded to a GTX 980 Ti SLI set up and gifted me his old EVGA GTX 660 SC. He told me that this GPU would at the very least match PS4 performance, so I used this as the basis for my very first foray into building a system.

My criteria was pretty simple: a build that would outperform the PS4 in multi-plat games. The problem is that the New Zealand dollar shat the bed over the last 18 months, and so importing components is ridiculously expensive. And our local retail prices are brutal compared to the US. I decided to prowl Trademe (basically NZ's eBay) for used components, whilst being thrifty with sales on new stuff, slowly amassing a build.

The SLI 660s might seem a bit weird, but being a uni student who only works part time, it gives me similar performance to a 780 at a much smaller price.

I'm really proud of how it turned out, and the look on my peasant friends' faces when they saw the Witcher 3 at 1080p60 on my 60 inch TV was glorious (you can play on a TV with a controller?!).
