[Build Ready] Would SteamOS be a good choice for my as of yet unbuilt gaming PC? Plus general feedback

Build Help/Ready:

I'm building my first PC this Christmas break and have already purchased most of the components, but I have a couple of questions about setting it up. First of all, the purpose of this PC will be gaming only (I have a laptop for web surfing, etc) and as a result I think purchasing an actual operating system isn't worth it. As a result, I was hoping to install SteamOS on it, but I'm not completely sure this is my best option. My concerns are: I've heard that SteamOS doesn't play well with the AMD drivers/Radeon graphics, would this be significant enough to cripple the PC's capabilities? And, I was hoping to use this wireless network adapter, which is claimed to work with Linux, does anyone know if it would be compatible with SteamOS? Any other feedback/advice would also be appreciated (I know I don't have a GPU, I didn't want to spend too much on my first basic gaming rig and was told by a Micro Center associate that his advice would be to get the A10 instead of a cheaper CPU and separate GPU at my price range [was originally considering a Pentium and a GeForce GT 720 or similar])

What is your intended use for this build? The more details the better.

Light to moderate gaming only, will spend a significant amount of time hooked up to my TV with xbox/steam controller

If gaming, what kind of performance are you looking for? (Screen resolution, FPS, game settings)

720-1080p (not a huge deal), 30+ fps, on medium to high settings for cs:go, rocket league, Skyrim, sleeping dogs, etc

What is your budget (ballpark is okay)?

$300-400 (already purchased $254.95 worth of parts, the rest will go towards a monitor/an OS if SteamOS doesn't work out

In what country are you purchasing your parts?

USA
