[Build Help] Dummy console gamer looking for help joining the pc master race, first build!

Hi guys, long time console player finally looking to join the pc master race. Thanks for reading my shit and possibly helping me do this properly.

I am doing this to crush my consoles performance, if this is not a big improvement over my xbox one then I'd consider this a waste of time and money, please advise me. My biggest priority is frame rate with resolution second. I will be playing fps, racing games, rpgs, and MOBA's. I guess a little bit of everything. I would like to acheive 120fps on 1080p for MOST modern games (witcher 3, fallout 4, mgsv) and some older games like rust, smite, Dayz and other pc exclusives. Not sure if I want to go into the realm of 1440p or 4k at this time, but could this computer run those resolutions at a decent frame rate? Should I consider splurging on a 1440p monitor? Maybe in the future. I've been playing consoles (xbox one & ps4) on a 720p for years so I think 1080 might be a impressive change for me.

So without further adue, I had this in mind for the build:

First thing, I'm wanting to go with the i7 4790k over the i5 4690k despite my friends telling me it's an unnecessary waste of money. Reason being, future proofing and if I want to run another 970 in SLI in a year or two I won't be held back by the processor and I actually watched a video on youtube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KzpYOHuSfaM) where he tests 19 games with the only thing different being the processor, a lot of games run very similarly BUT sometimes the i7 runs about 5 frames per second faster.

evo 212 because everyone seems to love this cooler for the price

Picked the Gigabyte GA-Z97X-Gaming 3 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard mostly because it's a cheaper motherboard that supports SLI and looks cool. (parts that look cool obviously perform better, amirite?)

Chose the 970 which has 4GB of vram BUT the r9 390 has 8GB of vram. At first glance, one would think double vram = double performance, but that's not the case, is it. I know 970 vs r9 390 is a whole thread on its own but I think I'll go with the 970 and perhaps use another one in SLI down the road.

I am choosing to just go with an SSD for now, only 256 GB. I am on a budget and I will grab a bigger HD when I need one. I am in Canada so this build will actually cost me around $1,500 CAD, you lucky Americans could build this for around $1,000.

And a 650W PSU.

So how would this build be? Awesome? Good? Am I a fucking idiot? Please help. Thanks everyone
