Since being able to play music from the Xbox One over any game title is a feature that's still a little ways off, I started using the streaming feature from Windows 10 as a roundabout way of achieving what I want. Mainly I wanted this feature to be able to listen to my own music in Forza Horizon 2, since the soundtrack in that game isn't very large and I don't like many of the songs it has to offer.
I've got my Xbox One at my desk, run through an HDMI switcher and into the same monitor I use for my PC. I turned on streaming from the console to the PC, turned my music on, and set the input on the monitor to the console. You could play from the streamed footage to the PC, but there's a slight input delay (150-350ms~ I would guess) and the video is somewhat heavily compressed, so instead I'm using the PC for audio only (also compressed, but what I would guess is 128kbps for the audio is much more acceptable than low bitrate 720p for video). Because the audio delay is only in one direction (input is two), it's barely noticeable at its worst.
It's certainly not the most elegant solution just to be able to play my own music in the same mix as the game, but I'm happy with how well it works. I don't really have any other use for the streaming-to-PC feature, so it was nice to find a purpose for it that is relevant to me. This is enough to tide me over until the feature is implemented properly on the Xbox One.
