[Spoiler] Sbenu Sonicboom v Samsung Galaxy - OGN Champion's series Summer 2015 Week 8 Day 2 - Commentary and Description

Samsung Galaxy Note 5 Gsmarena

Hi guys, I realise i'm a little late to the punch on this one (thanks to my job and what not). I'm going to be starting writing pieces following every game or series from each region pretty much everyday unless something substantial gets in the way. It designed to be a short light hearted analysis and description of how each game or match goes with some humour tossed in if you happen to find mine amusing. Overall, i'm just looking to convert how much I love watching League into something productive that I can feedback in to the community. So here goes nothing, kicking off my first post with Sbenu v Samsung in today's only OGN Champion's series. Enjoy! All feedback welcome.

Go here for all the stats related to this game (don't want to be stealing anybody's thunder).

Game 1 - Winner: Samsung Game time: 39:44

Sbenu (Blue):

Soar - Hecarim - 3/3/3

Catch - Evelynn - 2/4/4

SaSin - Vel'koz - 1/6/2

Nuclear - Sivir - 2/2/5

viviD - Braum - 0/7/8

Samsung (Red):

Cuvee - Maokai - 2/1/14

Eve - Ekko - 4/2/1

Crown - Azir - 6/2/8

Fury - Corki - 9/1/7

Wraith - Thresh - 1/2/15

Generally there is an etiquette to sending a message in a bottle, something of a romantic figure, idealistic, that has been the harbinger of many warnings or heartfelt messages. A perfectly sized cork, loving preparation and neat handwriting are usually a prerequisite, whilst the delivery speaks for itself. In this game Samsung broke the etiquette and, instead of letting the warning gently float towards Sbenu, grabbed the bottle by the neck and directly applied it to Sbenu's head.

Brutal is a word I would use, painful another, but messy is perhaps the word that works best with my previous metaphor. Like shattering a bottle against someone's temple, some of Samsung's engagements this game were sloppy, not most but some. The 5v5 thriller by Blue side's Brambleback (Red Buff) was a case in point but, as my Dad once told me, if you want to scare someone act as crazy as possible. It certainly seemed to be the plan as Lee 'Crown' Min-ho on Azir dashed towards SaSin and viviD, surely knowing that it would likely end in his death but managing to take viviD down with him, whilst Eve and Cuvee pulled off some daring but effective plays to finish off SaSin and Nuclear as the fight came to a close.

As it would turn out my old Dad appeared to be right on the money with his assertion; as the game grew older and Baron buff was secured for Samsung it increasingly became a one-horse race - well a two-horse race, but a race in which horse number two is stood wetting itself whilst horse number one simultaneously take a top and bot tier-2 tower. Horses do that if you're not careful. To round out the game, some nice team play from Samsung with super minion waves pushing in set the bar for the series high and it seemed as though Sbenu would have to considerably up their game, or attempt to slip a laxative in to Samsung's water bottles, if they were to come back in game two.

A special note should be made for Crown in this game, as Monte and DoA remarked he played extremely well, lovely fluid movements to complete the Shurima Shuffle and overall a well rounded performance, fit for an emperor, from him.

Game 2 - Winner: Sbenu

Game time: 35:39

Samsung (Blue):

Cuvee - Hecarim - 2/3/3

Eve - Evelynn - 2/3/3

Crown - Azir - 1/3/1

Fury - Tristana - 2/2/2

Wraith - Janna - 1/2/3

Sbenu (Red):

Soar - Rumble - 0/5/8

Catch - Jarvan IV - 1/0/12

SaSin - Ezreal - 7/0/4

Nuclear - Sivir - 4/0/4

Secret (subbed in for viviD) - Alistar - 1/3/8

Something might very well have been snuck in to the drinks of Samsung and indeed some of their fans as well who were probably left shifting uncomfortably in their seats every time SaSin appeared on the screen. It was a case of victim after victim for Oh 'SaSin' Seung-ju playing the much lauded Runeglaive Ezreal and i'm sure Eve in particular, who was playing....well...Eve, will be trying to forget today's experience in a hurry as he was continually singled out and destroyed, as if SaSin played the role of natural selection and Eve played the Dodo. SaSin didn't have the perfect game on Ezreal, perhaps feeling sympathy for the enemy team, and blasted a number of True Shot Barrages wide but overall he could do no wrong and handily dismantled Samsung in each team fight allowing his team to push for glory.

I find it difficult to write a lot about a game in which Runeglaive Ezreal runs the show, as is fairly common, but Sbenu deserve credit for playing well as a team and restoring their honour after a frankly toothless display in game one. Samsung's lack of tools to engage on to SaSin in this game turned out to be their downfall however Sbenu's reliance on SaSin to take and hold the lead in this game could, and did, cause problems for them in the final game with the bot lane being an area of specific interest after the substitution of viviD for Secret didn't produce any marked step up. Certainly, it's no secret that Samsung's bot lane duo are a force to be reckoned with.

Game 3 - Winner: Samsung

Game time: 31:05

Samsung (Blue):

Cuvee - Ryze - 7/2/4

Eve - Ekko - 2/1/9

Crown - Azir - 1/0/3

Fury - Kog'Maw - 5/0/5

Wraith - Alistar - 1/1/10

Sbenu (Red):

Soar - Maokai - 1/7/1

Catch - Jarvan IV - 1/2/3

SaSin - Varus - 1/2/3

Nuclear - Sivir - 1/3/3

Secret - Janna - 0/2/4

Game 3 was the story of a young little sapling, aptly named SoaR, his dream to grow in to a big, strong tree, and the series of challenges that he faced in his life cycle. In this case, challenges refers to the entirety of Samsung cosplaying Lumberjack Sion and chop chop chopping little SoaR's hopes and dreams in to pieces, a group effort undertaken especially enthusiastically by Lee 'Cuvee' Seong-jin.

Relentless from start to finish, Samsung punished Sbenu for their reliance on SaSin (the stand out performer for their team during this series) starting in pick and ban phase with a swift Ezreal ban whilst Crown continued to get his way and played Azir for the third time today. The team synergy and ability to stand toe to toe with Samsung disappeared as fast as it had accrued for Sbenu who managed only 4 kills in this game, half of which were on Cuvee monstrous Ryze who ran distraction towards the end of the game whilst Samsung picked up Baron buff, as Samsung delivered their final verdict on Sbenu's second game performance. 0/10, don't do it again. Or else.

Lee 'SoaR' Gang-pyo was largely the target of the threats as Samsung set about demonstrating what they intended to do to the rest of the team should they choose to fight back and, perhaps for their own good, Sbenu rolled over, played dead and waited to be firmly placed in the Bird Cage. SaSin's excellent defeatist face, which DoA imaginatively tagged "SaSin Face" (No spacerino), summed up Sbenu's performance in games one and three, and for much of the season for that matter, as they crumbled once again yet to have secured a match win thus far.

Sbenus are made for walking, and that's just what they'll do, and one of these days Sbenu's gonna walk...out of the LCK. SaSinFace. I'll leave now.

I hope you all enjoyed this and thanks for reading, i'll be posting similar articles for the EU LCS as I work through them immediately after this is posted.
