My pi is not displaying anything out of the hdmi output display when turned on

Samsung Galaxy Note 5 Gsmarena

Possibly important information:

1. I had only the powersource and HDMI cable plugged in at the time.

2. The red and green light on the pi lit up when plugged in

3. there was a slight "computer noise" that I could hear that made it sound like it was running somewhat. nothing loud or serious, just like a low humm.

4. it had worked before i put it away for awhile.

5. i tried it with the old usb stick in and also with a newly flashed on with the newest raspian

6. the power source I am using is from a samsung galaxy note 4 (and a few others). rated atleast 5amps and 2000 (mah?)

Any ideas?
