[Build Ready] Is this good for gaming, multimedia and graphic design or is it overkill?

Build Help/Ready:

Have you read the sidebar and rules? (Please do)

Yes, I have!

What is your intended use for this build? The more details the better.

I am mainly looking to build a PC for college. I have spent the past four years as a graphic designer for my high school newspaper using an HP Elitebook 6930p. It's gotten me pretty far, as I've been able to use CS6 well, and produce some award winning (brag, brag) designs. However, I have free time and spare change right now, and I am thinking about building a PC for the first time. I feel like it'll be a fun time, plus I am eager to use a PC that I built myself. It just makes me feel good inside.

Graphic work aside, I am also looking to run some current games. The goal is to run Dark Souls I & II and Skyrim. On my current laptop, Skyrim is barely able to run. I had to use the ultra-low-graphics mod to get ~40-50FPS, but at that point there were so many graphical glitches going on that it wasn't worth it! I am also looking to run indies and some japanese titles (VNs and vertical shooters), but those aren't really demanding per se.

If gaming, what kind of performance are you looking for? (Screen resolution, FPS, game settings)

To be honest, I don't quite know. I am new to PC gaming, and mainstream console gaming as well. I just got a used PS3 and have been playing through the games I missed out on one by one. Before that, I was a strictly PS2, original xbox, and Wii/GC kinda guy. So to say the least, I am new to this whole HD-gaming thing. I'd like to run stuff smoothly, so I guess the higher FPS range would be ideal. The monitor I have selected in the build is a 1080p one, so I suppose 1080p would be an ideal resolution. I've got no problem downing that to 720 though.

What is your budget (ballpark is okay)?

I honestly wanted to only spend ~$500 on the entire thing, but after looking around on PCPartPicker and Reddit, I've seen that for all I am trying to get, that's not realistic. So I am bumping my budget up to $600ish, but less than $700 for everything (monitor, accessories, etc.).

In what country are you purchasing your parts?

'Murica

Post a draft of your potential build here (specific parts please). Consider formatting your parts list. Don't ask to be spoonfed a build (read the rules!).

Provide any additional details you wish below.

I just wanna say that I am super stoked to be doing this. I've always thought about building a PC, but never had the time or money to do it until now. I've always loved tech, and messing around with computers has been a huge chunk of my life. I know a fair amount of the basic stuff (like what parts do what and my way around various OSes), but I still need a bit of help in picking the right parts for the right job. Please let me know if the build I posted is overkill, or if it is even not enough. I am really new to this side of computing, so I probably made mistakes with picking some of those parts...
