I've had my LG 4K TV for a week now, and I can say without a doubt that the last-gen 720p games definitely looked better all in all.
Maybe because it's the jump from 1080p which has 2M pixels to 2160p which has 8M - I know it's being upscaled but I guess you have to see it to believe it.
The upscaler chip does a very good job at it and as for most LG's, setting the input label to PC then using the "Game" mode makes it a very responsive gaming display as well.
Just for the folks who are still on the fence about getting 4K displays - although 4K content is still hard to come by, the upscaling overall greatly improves both 720p content (last-gen games) and 1080p content (movies, tv shows).
