After attempting to play MCC on Xbox One at several intervals throughout the past 6 months, my friends and I completely gave up on it after frequent crashes or the lackluster and confusing UI. So, last night, dusted off my white Xbox 360 from 2006 sans HDMI, that still runs, (she was gifted RROD once and survived after repair) invited some friends over, and played some 4-player splitscreen Halo 3.
At first I thought it was nostalgia working on me, but then I simply realized that OG Halo 3 is just that good. We had no issues, no hiccups, just fun. Sure, it's 720p - but you know what, a console from 2005 managed to still hold true to a near-constant 30 fps.
I had the realization that with this game the 360 actually provides a significantly better experience on Xbox 360. With four controllers, four friends are able to simultaneously and seamlessly sign in, and all my maps, gamemodes, and replays from 2007 are still there, ready to play.
I won't forget the countless LAN nights that I would have over 9 friends, and 3 Xbox 360s were entrenched in a massive slew of cables, all connected to a router, with 10 players playing simultaneously. This is what made Halo, Halo and Xbox, Xbox.
This is not a "shit-on-MCC and Xbox One post." It's simply a reminder to all of you Halo fans that Microsoft has lost its vision, but that vision still exists, and can easily be reclaimed. If you're fed up with your Xbox One and MCC stop what you're doing, boot up the 360, invite some friends over and play some good old Halo in its original, unadulterated form. I promise you will not be disappointed.
