Build Help/Ready:
Have you read the sidebar and rules? (Please do)
Yes
What is your intended use for this build? The more details the better.
I am a student who needs to submit a PhD thesis in 6 months; so until then I will be using this build for office work and internets. I will however be playing dark souls 3 in my downtime.
I plan to upgrade to a 1080p/4k monitor around december and will consider a decent GPU upgrade to go with it, but for now my budget is severely limited to my current build below, with a little head room for a half decent GPU capable of praising the sun at decent frame rates in high/ultra settings.
If gaming, what kind of performance are you looking for? (Screen resolution, FPS, game settings)
my screen is currently a 19'' 900p monitor that was gifted to me; it also only has VGA connection so i'm not expecting too much from it in terms of graphics. I also have a 27'' 720p HDMI TV that will be used as a second monitor until a better one replaces it.
My last gaming PC experience was fallout 2 back in the glory days; since then I have always been a console player. The budget restrictions of student life have limited me to an xbox 360 for the past... well a long time and it is all I have known in terms of gaming performance.
What is your budget (ballpark is okay)?
Im around the GTX 750ti / R9 270 mark in terms of price/performance for this GPU. My budget is £500 in total and my current build is at £413.
In what country are you purchasing your parts?
United Kingdom.
Post a draft of your potential build here (specific parts please). Consider formatting your parts list. Don't ask to be spoonfed a build (read the rules!).

Provide any additional details you wish below.
I have considered bumping my budget to 560 and getting a GTX960; I also have my eye on an r9 380 for £160 but thats a little out of my current price range, so i'm wondering if I would be better to get a lower end card now, then sell it and upgrade during holiday sales to get a good 1080p/4k ready OC monster.
