So, I've been having a ton of problems with this game and it's really frustrating. I'm just going to list my problems to get them off my chest.
- The game doesn't shut down on my system, even if I alt+f4 it. I have to use task manager to shut it down. After exiting the game it just runs in the background, music playing. I run my system muted a lot and I found this out when I started watching netflix on my computer and the music was playing. It doesn't list the game in apps in task manager, it lists it under background processes. I can't imagine how much wear this has put on my system in the last week
- The install was an absolute nightmare. after "pre-installing" it took an additional 12 hours to install the game on my system. I have a 120gbps down in my home. I came home from work after "preinstalling" the game only to find I had to listen to that horrible music forever before I could play the game. That's not what a "preinstall" is.
- A lot of "landmarks" are just bunk. I flew around the Outer Banks in North Carolina, US and all of the lighthouses are just rendered as gazebos. Even the monument in Kitty Hawk is missing. Kitty Hawk is called out in the loading screen. It frequently tells me "You can visit the birthplace of flight" or whatever in the loading screen and they didn't even bother properly putting it in the game.
- There's no joystick support outside of Thrustmaster, Logitech and a couple of other brands. And it's very specific models. Not even legacy versions of Saitek and microsoft. I don't understand how they didn't even put in a generic joystick support controller system. It's insane. I've been playing with an Xbox controller and keyboard because I'm too lazy to map all the axises to my Saitek. The joystick is compatible with a PS4 but not MFS2020? HOW!?! Just.... how?! Like for real! They couldn't have just put in generic joystick support?!
- The progress and stats totally don't add up right. According to the "stats" screen I've only flown for 400 meters. And have flown 4 seconds without stalling. None of the stats are right in the game. I'm getting the achievements, but the game's stats aren't right at all. I've taxi'd for 0 meters according to the game. I'm pretty sure I've taxi'd a lot more than 0 meters.
- I don't see other people's planes in the game. I see them on the map and hear them on ATC but I don't actually see them. I loaded into LAX and there was supposed to be about 10 other players plus a bunch of AI planes floating around the area. I loaded into a parking spot and I could hear ATC and other players but I couldn't see them. There was supposed to be a bunch of AI planes around the are, as well. I couldn't see a single one. The airspace and airport were completely empty.
- WHAT IS UP WITH OPTIMIZATION!? I sat on a remote airport's runway playing with my settings. I turned down the resolution from 1080 to 720 and my FPS dropped from 25fps to 20fps. Ok.... I turned off AA and my FPS dropped again.... ok.... oddly enough I only get 10fps at 480 but I get around 30fp at 1080. How does that make sense?
- This is a small complaint, but still is a complaint. When I'm flying near landmarks and I hit "x" (because I'm using an xbox controller since they don't support my joystick!" it doesn't focus on ladmarks. It just spins and gives me a different view of my plane until I get really close to the landmark.
I'm just really disappointed by this game. I guess I should be more used to games shipping out broken by now, but I was thinking that Flight Simulator, being one of MS' biggest titles, would ship in a more workable condition than it is right now. I remember when FSx shipped and I loaded it up on my old system is was almost perfectly put together. Almost no problems (aside from being the first game my system didn't run at around 60fps at the time) but MFS2020 just feels broken. I'm glad I didn't buy it thanks to Gamepass Ultimate, cause if I paid for the game I would be demanding a refund at this point.
Thanks, microsoft.
