I totally agree with those who are worried this will go against the simplicity of the console experience until the point where we had the situation with the last generation. Where the consoles could only support fractions of the full maps in battlefield 3 and fractions of the player count, and hence potentially paying more for a comprised experience, not just in frame rate or graphics, but crucially in gameplay.
This exteme circumstance, I think is a good example of where a upgrade would be welcome as opposed to no upgrade and a highly inferior experience.
But I think the need for this may come sooner, since both consoles run BF4 for example at a compromised resolution, highly compromised in the case of the Xbox. So once BF6 comes around (I'm using battlefield as an example, because I am very familiar with the franchise), we could see the same sub 720p resolution, 30fps target frame and a partial gameplay again.
I loved bad company 2 and bf3 on 360, but now looking back I'm slightly saddened there was more to my favourite multiplayer games of that time that I couldn't experience.
