When did gaming become about specs instead of quality of the game itself?

Let me start off by saying that I am by no means saying specs aren't important, but I'm seeing a lot of people on a certain video on YouTube saying that the Nintendo Switch is already dead because of its inferior specs to the PS and Xbox.

Honestly I am more concerned about gameplay and storytelling over frame rate or 1080p over 720p. I just really think it's time people remember that high frame rates and top notch quality isn't everything. I mean the best games ever made were released between the 80s- early 2000s, and I can assure you they weren't 60fps 1080p.

Of course the better the specs the better the experience, but this does not mean the Switch will fail. I truly believe it will be revolutionary. Oh, and all those people complaining about having to pay for online: You have to pay for PlayStation AND Xbox to play online too.
